What is IASTM Technique?
IASTM Technique is an evidence-based form of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization that uses stainless steel instruments to help detect and treat soft tissue adhesions or fascial restrictions. IASTM Technique is usually combined with rehabilitation exercises.
What does it do?
The stainless steel instruments glide along muscles, tendons, and ligaments to detect where the soft tissue restrictions exist. When soft tissue becomes “knotted” it can lead to pain and dysfunction since the tissue lacks the flexibility and strength of normal tissue. Studies have shown that IASTM Technique Therapy results in an increased rate of healing, increased blood perfusion, better tissue organization, and fiber alignment in tendons and ligaments.
What is the typical treatment plan?
Treatment plans will differ depending on the condition and how long the condition has been an issue. Typically, initial visits are 1-2 times per week for 4-5 weeks. Treatments will be more spread out as goals of care are being met. Patients usually feel a positive response in 2-3 treatments.
